Muscat is the capital of Oman, set between mountains and the Gulf of Oman, with an old harbour, forts and a long coastline of beaches and corniche. The climate is hot desert: summers (May to September) are very hot and humid, winters (November to March) are warm, sunny and the most comfortable, and rain is rare. October to March is the best time for racing, with early starts to avoid the heat. The sea is warm for swimming for most of the year. Muscat International Airport serves the city.
