Pucón is a lakeside resort town in Chile's Araucanía region, on Lake Villarrica and beneath the active Villarrica volcano, surrounded by forest, rivers and hot springs. The climate is temperate and wet: summers (December to February) are warm and mostly dry, autumn (March to May) is cool and rainy, winters (June to August) are cold and wet with snow on the volcano, and spring is fresh. Summer, from December to March, is the best time to race, with warm days and the lake pleasant for swimming. It is reached from Temuco, about an hour and a half by road.
