Race IRONMAN 70.3 Tours Métropole - Loire Valley with a Loire River swim, flat bike course, and scenic run through historic France. Tours, known as the city of castles, was once the capital of the kingdom of France in the 15th and 16th centuries. Located in west-central France between the banks of the Loire and Cher rivers, the city is just an hour by train from Paris.
The event offers athletes a glimpse of medieval and Renaissance castles steeped in history, verdant parks, and riverside paths, on a course set to be one of the fastest in France. The adventure finishes with a festive 100% indoor finish line in the Parc des Expositions de Tours.
The path from the water exit to the bike park and transition area is approximately 400 meters long. Retrieve your blue bag, change into cycling gear in changing rooms if needed, hang your bag back on your numbered hook, and proceed to your bike. Transition 1 is 100% indoor.
Transition 2 is identical to transition 1 in reverse order. Place your bike in its designated spot, head towards transition bags to change for the half-marathon, and properly store your bag.
The course features a 1.9 km (1.2 mile) rectangular swim in the Cher River, a 90 km (56 mile) flat 1-loop bike course passing historic castles like the Château d'Ussé along the Cher River, and a 21.1 km (13.1 mile) 2-loop run along the Cher and Parc Honoré de Balzac before finishing indoors at the Parc des Expositions de Tours.
The 1.9km (1.2 miles) ROKA swimming course takes the form of a rectangle in the Cher River, a tributary of the Loire.
A 90 km (56 mile) flat bike course loop taking athletes along the banks of the Cher River past historic castles, including the Château d'Ussé. Aid stations located at 18km, 47km, and 72km.
The 21.1 km (13.1 mile) HOKA running course consists of two loops along the banks of the Cher and Parc Honoré de Balzac, finishing indoors in the Parc des Expositions de Tours. Aid stations at 1.4km, 3.8km, 6.3km, 8.4km, 9.3km, 12.1km, 14.5km, 16.9km, 19.1km, and 19.9km.
Tours is a city in the Loire Valley, known for its château country, a lively old town and riverside paths along the Loire and the Cher. The climate is mild and oceanic: summers (June to August) are warm, autumn is mild and often damp, winters (December to February) are cool and wet, and spring is fresh. Spring and early autumn are the best seasons for racing, with settled weather in May, June and September. Flat river routes suit fast courses. It is about an hour from Paris by high-speed train, with road links across the region.
